The Question: "Should I be worried about getting the Hantavirus?
The hantavirus has been known of since the early 20th century in Siberia and during the Korean War.
There are essentially 2 major strains, the HRS in the eastern hemisphere and the HPS in the western hemisphere.
In the western hemisphere, there are 2 substrains, the Andes which was named because it originated in the Andes mountain area of Chile' and the brilliantly named Sin Nombre (No Name) hantavirus found in the deer mice west of the Mississippi but originally found in the Four Corners region in 1993.
The hantavirus is a zoonotic (spread from animals) specifically rodents through their urine, droppings or bites. Only the Andes strain has any spread of human to human and that is extremely low and only under extreme close prolonged contact.

The cruise ship MV Hondius sailed from Argentina. This hantavirus is thought to have originated out of Argentina, which makes it more than likely the Andes strain. Of the 150 people on the cruise ship, only 8 have been confirmed infected which is an extremely high infection rate which is just over 5% for a hantavirus. The RO for contagiousness for the hantavirus is near 0. The common cold is a whopping 12-18 meaning that 1 person on average will typically infect 12 to 18 others. The hantavirus is nearly 0. The fact that 8 people were infected on 1 ship is hard to believe unless an infected rodent is on that ship also.
The Andes strain has not been in the United States.
Here, it's the No Name strain that infects on average 30 people per year with a fatality rate of 11 out of the 30 or 38%.
Because the medical industrial complex has no vaccine (yea) and their main means of treating it is "supportive care" meaning you go to the hospital, if you are having trouble breathing, they give you oxygen or place you on an ECMO breathing machine, fluids and electrolyte management, control your blood pressure and pray you get well. Even with this "supportive care", an average of 38% will die anyway. They have no other possible treatments but I'd bet dollars to a donut Big Pharma will want to create yet another vaccine they can force on the public to supposedly try to save about 11 lives a year from the sky-is-falling hantavirus.
